The site comprises a former Convent which was occupied by the Institute of the Religious Sacred Heart of Mary from 1927 until the early part of 2014.

Prior to its principal use as a Convent, the building had been a private school and before that it was a private dwelling.

Originally built as a private dwelling, the building is believed to have its origins
from the late C18th.

It was extensively re-modelled in its current Gothic style in 1871-72, with later extensions added.
